The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has emphasised the need for herders and farmers to live in peace in the council.
Candido, in a statement released by his chief press secretary, Dayo Lawal, made this known during a meeting with representatives of herdsmen and farmers in the council.
Candido was quoted to have said the council took the issue of security “very seriously, because without peace and security, we cannot go out seeking for our daily food and that is the more reason why I sleep and wake up thinking on how we can avert crisis in our locality.
“It was in view of this commitment that the council made a careful selection of the people concerned to attend this meeting and communicate to their people whatever is discussed at the meeting to avert any clash in the area council,” the statement released yesterday read in part.
He appealed to the participants not to allow farmers and herdsmen crisis in the council and also directed the Sarkin Noma (chiefs of farmers) to organise their members into a very strong forum in each of the 12 political wards in AMAC so that it would be convenient for the government to reach them.
